Opinion: Letter to the Editor: Tasteless Suburban Sprawl

The amount of high-rise condo construction in Reston is getting to be a bit tedious, but none so tedious as those hideous structures nearing completion next to the International Center. One can only assume that the architect was trying to achieve something along the lines of "Early Holiday Inn meets Soviet-era Public Housing." And how about that parking garage with the Lincoln logs attached at rakish angles to the side of the structure?

Seriously, was the Reston Architectural Review Board out to lunch when it came time to approve this eyesore? It's sad to see how Robert Simon's vision of clustered housing, open spaces, and tasteful architecture has given way to tasteless suburban sprawl.
