Obituary: Thomas A. Weaver, 55, of Reston, Dies

Thomas A. Weaver died suddenly on Aug. 20, 2014, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida. Born May 27, 1959, in Lutcher, La., the son of Simone (Pomainville) Barbara and the stepson of John F. Barbara Jr. He was a graduate of Destrehan High School and Delgado Culinary School.

Tom worked as Executive chef for Christian’s Restaurant and The Court of Two Sisters until moving to Reston in 2007. Tom was also a bright light in the Reston culinary world as a Master Chef at Tavern on The Lake [now called Kalypso’s Sports Tavern] during the season of late 2007-2008. He delighted in living near the water and many times was reviewed in several local newspaper articles as such. He helped to make Lake Anne a very special place to dine.

Tom was published in many cuisine journals and books, won numerous awards and was a guest chef for Julia Child’s 80th birthday celebration.

Tom is survived by his parents, a daughter, Carrie Weaver of St. Rose, La. and a granddaughter, Kairi also of Louisiana, and his three brothers, Michael, Victor and James. He is predeceased by his brother, Terrance. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Tom lived with his close friend, Nancy Grant and her son Tom in Reston and worked for DECA (a nonprofit educational organization) until they all moved to Sarasota, Fla., in July 2014.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at La Muhleisen’s Chapel, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA. The family viewing is from 8-9 a.m. The public viewing is from 9-11 a.m. and the Catholic service is at 11 a.m. He will be buried next to his beloved brother, Terry.
