Fairfax County police are investigating the fatal stabbing of an adult woman who was found near the Great Falls and McLean border the morning of Aug. 17.
Detectives from FCPS Major Crimes Bureau are investigating a homicide that occurred in the parking lot of Difficult Run Park in the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike in Great Falls, according to Capt. Jason Chandler, commander of the Public Affairs Bureau during a news briefing at the scene.
On Sunday, Aug. 17, just before 7 a.m., officers responded to the park for the report of an unconscious woman lying in the parking lot near a 2011 Honda Civic. Responding officers observed trauma to the woman's upper body. The victim was identified as Carmen Lizet Puch, 42, of Reston, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide and Crime Scene detectives responded to assume the investigation. They determined the 2011 Honda Civic was registered to the victim.
A community member arriving for a morning run discovered the body near a vehicle registered to the victim. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witness accounts and video footage. Police are specifically asking community members for surveillance camera feeds.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the victim’s cause and manner of death.
