Dog Paddle Makes a Splash at Reston Pool

Nothing like a day at the pool to kick back and just have fun with your buddies at the pool.

Reston Association unleashed its first dog dip in a pool that had closed for the season at its Aug. 16 Dog Paddle at Autumnwood Pool.

The autumn equinox on Sept. 22  will be the last day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere for 2025. In the United States, many people see Labor Day, with its picnics and parades, as the unofficial end of summer, marking the end of the season.

However, a little closer to home in Fairfax County, the end of summer is marked by the closing of neighborhood outdoor pools and their brief conversion into dog-paddle pools, followed by the first day of school.

Scoopy Doodle is a brown Labradoodle. He “enjoyed the best time of the year in Reston at his second Reston Doggy Paddle,” said his dog dad, Vince Falbo, at the Autumnwood Pool on Saturday.

Lee Hou, community assistant at Reston Association, urged people to come out along with their dogs and use the Association’s facilities. Members and nonmembers must register online. Enjoy the dogs having a great time in the water. “People are not allowed in the pool, though,” Hou said.

Future dog paddles are available through Sept. 6 at the Autumnwood location and other Reston Association Pools. Search the Reston Association Dog Paddles 2025 online to register and learn more.
