Ezra Spielvogel, 4 of Reston, beams with joy as he stands next to MPO Derek Brown, the Crime Prevention Officer, and MPO Jenette Post, the Community Outreach Officer, both from the Reston District Station. The trio posed after Ezra spun the Fairfax County Police Department’s prize wheel and won a Slurpee at the National Night Out 2025 event held at Hunters Woods in Reston.
The Reston Community Center, in partnership with the Hunters Woods Neighborhood Coalition and the Fairfax County Police Department Reston District Station, hosted a National Night Out event at Hunters Woods on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The event, which took place from noon to 2 p.m. in front of the Hunters Woods Fellowship House and the Reston Community Center, also served as the official kickoff for the One Hunters Woods Initiative.
Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill) attended the event. He explained that the annual National Night Out was the perfect opportunity to launch the new initiative, which aims to unite the entire community, including law enforcement from the county's Sheriff's Office and Police Department.
The 2025 National Night Out highlighted the importance of community engagement. When neighbors get to know each other, they feel safer and build trust with law enforcement.
Alcorn said: "The idea is to bring the whole community together in events like this to celebrate what we have here in Reston — the Reston Community Center, our wonderful restaurants and vendors, Fellowship House, and our communities of faith. Today is a great example of bringing all of that together with our law enforcement officials, concurrent with National Night Out."
