Reston: ‘Wild’ Chinese Lantern Festival Illuminates NoVa

Over 800 hand-made lanterns have been shipped from southern China to northern Virginia for the Chinese Lantern Festival at Roer’s Zoofari, the old Reston Zoo, in Vienna. All the lanterns in the festival are life-sized or oversized animals that stand at heights as tall as 55 feet, says George Zhao, spokesperson for the festival.

A red carpet was laid out at Reston Town Center’s Bow Tie Cinema for the 6th annual Washington West Film Festival. The 6th annual Washington West Film Festival (WWFF) showcased fifty-nine films from around the world, including world premieres and D.C. premieres. ”We're getting terrific feedback about our Washington West 2016 lineup of films,” said Brad Russell, founder and president of WWFF.

That great American musical classic “Gypsy” will be opening the Reston Community Players (RCP) 50th season. “We selected ‘Gypsy’ to start off our 50th season because it is an iconic and classic musical, and we really wanted something recognizable to kick off our 50th,” said Jolene Vettese, President, Reston Community Players and Assistant Director of “Gypsy.”

Reston: Oktoberfest Returns to Reston on Oct. 8

The beer and wine will be flowing at Oktoberfest Reston produced by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce. Oktoberfest Reston is one of the largest fall festivals in Northern Virginia, drawing crowds up to 35,000. This event features the best in fall and German brews with traditional Oktoberfest fare from area restaurants.

McLean, Great Falls, Reston: Wannabe Beekeepers Wanted

Beekeeping is a trending hobby, but many stung by the idea don’t know where to begin. On Sunday, Oct. 8, from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Reston Association Headquarters Conference Center, master beekeeper Todd Harding teaches wannabe backyard beekeepers the basics of procuring, maintaining, and feeding bees. The class is held in Reston at the home-owners association, but is open to everyone, regardless of address.
